Why did I build it?

I've always enjoyed building games that appear simple on the surface but present interesting engineering challenges behind the scenes.

Connect4Fever started as a personal project to explore topics such as Angular, real-time multiplayer, game state synchronization, matchmaking, AI opponents, scalable backend architecture, and responsive UI design. It has since grown into an opportunity to create the ultimate Connect Four experience while sharpening my skills across the entire software stack.

Building Connect4Fever is about much more than implementing the game itself. Some of the technical challenges include:

  • Designing an authoritative multiplayer architecture to prevent cheating
  • Synchronizing game state with low latency
  • Scaling real-time gameplay for thousands of concurrent players
  • Creating AI opponents with varying skill levels
  • Supporting multiple rule variations without duplicating game logic
  • Building a flexible game engine that can accommodate new mechanics
  • Maintaining a responsive user experience across devices and network conditions
